Being listed isn't enough. Be the one recommended.

A listing proves your business exists. It gives a buyer no reason to pick it. AI search rewards the business that answers the buyer's choosing question on its own page, backs it with evidence, and can trace the result to a quote request.

The main points

Five outcomes that get confused for one.

Indexed, mentioned, cited, recommended, and a real inquiry. Each depends on the one before it.

Collect

The choosing questions.

Pull real buyer questions from emails, call notes and quote forms. Separate information questions from choosing questions about which provider fits.

Finds: the deciding question
Answer

Where the decision happens.

Answer the choosing question in the first lines of the matching service page, with evidence a stranger could check: credentials, service area, reviews.

Earns: the recommendation
Monitor

Check the answer weekly.

Ask the same question in three AI tools on the same day each week. Log whether you were named, cited or recommended, and how you were described.

Shows: the pattern
Trace

Connect it to a quote.

End the page with a quote form that records where it came from, and ask every inquiry how they found you. Count mentions, visits and contracts separately.

Questions

Getting recommended by AI, answered.

Why is being listed not enough?

A listing proves the business exists. A recommendation means an AI answer matched your evidence to a buyer's situation.

What is a choosing question?

A question about which provider fits the buyer's constraints, such as who handles their type of work in their area. It comes after the buyer understands the category.

What makes a page support a recommendation?

The answer to the choosing question in its first lines, backed by specific, consistent, verifiable statements such as credentials, service area and relevant reviews.

Can I see AI traffic in my analytics?

Some of it. ChatGPT adds utm_source=chatgpt.com to referral links. Much of the effect shows up later as branded search or direct traffic, so ask every inquiry how they found you.
